“COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS”

One By One

Sometimes we confuse what real blessings are. We accumulate many things throughout a lifetime, and by the world’s view, we may seem blessed to others.

But what is a true blessing?

The word “blessing” is usually thought of as grace said before a meal. Or, we express or feel gratitude for something. 

We also say things like “that’s a blessing in disguise” when an apparent misfortune eventually turns out to be something good.1

A true blessing is found in God and His favor and protection over our lives. We must be careful in distinguishing the difference. 

The things that creep in and push out God are things we primarily count as blessings. These blessings aren’t inherently bad, the problem is when they sideline the blesser. 2

Let’s not get caught up in these moments and forget about God.

In Colossians 2:2-3, Paul says, “ that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”

So you see, our “treasures” or things we call “blessings” are all nice to have. But our true blessings come from God alone, through His favor and protection. 

The true riches we are looking for lie in the knowledge and understanding of Jesus, in whom all the treasures of the world could never compare. 

Father, we are grateful for the blessing you bestow on us every day. There is none other like You. Help us to grow in our understanding and knowledge of who You are and to increase our faith as we walk with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
